Good, Fast, or Cheap
My favorite animation production adage goes like this; "Good, Fast, or Cheap, pick two, because you can't have all three". I don't remember where I first heard it, but I know there has never been anything closer to the truth. Think about it. You can have a project cheap and fast, but it can't be of great quality. You can have a project that is good and fast, but then it cannot be cheap. Think of all the talented artists a studio would need to manage a "good and fast" job, can't be cheap, not if you want to stay in business. And last but not least, you can produce a project that is good and cheap, but you need the luxury of time to make it worth the effort. There is of course another adage in art; K I S S, "Keep It Simple Stupid", but if I followed that I wouldn't be an animator.
